The Trump administration has once again shocked Washington’s defense and intelligence community. In a sudden move, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth dismissed Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Kruse, head of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), along with two other senior military leaders — the head of the Naval Reserve and the commander of Naval Special Warfare.
This decision came shortly after a leaked intelligence report contradicted Trump’s claims about U.S. strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites. The June 22 operation reportedly delayed Iran’s nuclear program by several months, but the White House narrative suggested otherwise.
Senator Mark Warner, Vice Chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, criticized the move as “a dangerous habit of using intelligence positions to enforce loyalty tests rather than protect national security.”
Whether this is a strategic shake-up or a loyalty purge, the consequences for U.S. national security could be significant. As Trump moves into the next phase of his administration, the balance between politics and military intelligence may be tested like never before.
